Good Omens 8/10

Over the weekend I checked out the new Amazon series Good Omens. This is the story of an angel and the demon who are both not that good at their jobs who over thousands of years become sorta friends and coworkers even though they have to keep their contact secret or else they will both face terrible ass consequences. That is the short version. The long version is that this show was really good, funny, and creative as fuck but it could have been weirder. I know that may sound strange for a show featuring hell zombies, asshole angels, aliens with duck bills, and the city of Atlantis rising. But it felt like the show was getting weirder and then got on track when it should've continued to be odd. The special effects were cheesy but in a good way that fit and I got the vibe of Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy while watching.

The series starts off with Eve being tempted by a snake on the Garden of Eden. By the way, Eve was fine as fuck. I need to point that out. Even looked up the actress. So she gives Adam a bite and they get some clothes on (boo...) and head out into the world. This angel Aziraphale gives Adam his flaming sword. This demon Crowley (formerly known as Crawley because of his snake form) asks if it was a good idea. Az thinks so until he witnesses Adam cut a lions head off. In present day there is a plan to have the son of Satan switched with this American diplomats kid and 11 years later he is supposed to help start Armageddon. These crazy ass nuns end up mixing up the kids and the son of Satan goes to this nice English family while who they think is Satan's kid heads with the diplomat. Az and Crowley kinda like living on Earth and do not really want shit to go down. Az and Crowley takes job as the kid they think is Satan's kid named Warlock nanny and gardener. They both teach him to be both good and evil.

This post man is going around the world delivering packages to the Horsemen of the Apocalypse. He finds war at a peace treaty signing where she says she is a reporter. She gets her sword and the treaty ends with everyone shooting one another. Famine is opening a chain of restaurants where no actual food but “Chow” is served. Pollution is the newest Horseman (and hot) after Pestilence retired after penicillin was invented. Death arrives after the delivery guy kills himself to deliver his package which was just a message. They all gather on motorcycles and look badass as hell. Literally. Meanwhile the son of Satan Adam is growing up pretty damned normal with his friends until he meets this witch whose ancestor wrote a bunch of prophecies gets him hooked on conspiracy theories. As he sleeps the stuff comes true in the real world.

Az and Crowley are in deep shit after it is revealed that the babies were mixed up and that Az has been chumming around with a demon. There is a lot of shit squeezed into six episodes and this actually may have benefited from one or two more. The ending seemed kind of rushed after such a big build up. I was hoping to see a huge cool battle but got a bunch of annoying kids being annoying and saving the day. My favorite parts were when any angel or demon was on screen. Not a huge fan of the witch hunter stuff but they paced it well enough to not wear out its welcome. This was a fun show and really weird. I would suggest you check it out if you are a fan of the writers or any of the actors and actresses in this.
