Booksmart 8/10

My name is Dante and I am a 40 year old Black dude that really liked a movie about two White chicks wanting to party before graduating high school. By the way, full of random ass spoilers. A coworker told me that this movie Booksmart was funnier than Tropic Thunder and I told her to hold her horses because I fucking love that movie and the commentary makes it even better. This was funny and had some parts that made me crack up. I love Gigi. I want an entire movie with her just appearing in places unexpectedly. This is about two girls named Amy and Molly. They are the type of people that you roll your eyes at or sigh when they enter the room and the other students do. Amy has been out of the closet for a couple of years and her religious family is fine with it. They just don't want details. She plans to head to Botswana after school to make tampons for women in villages. Yeah. She has a crush on this skateboarding girl named Ryan whose voice I loved. Molly plans to go to Yale, get a great job, and a great career.

One day after hearing people talking mad shit about her Molly confronts them. I was so glad she did because in so many movies people don't and go cry in a room. She points out that while she is gonna be making a better life for herself they will be partying and going nowhere. They all reveal that they have great jobs and schools lined up. Molly doesn't believe them and goes on a rampage asking where everyone is going to school. She is pissed to find out that all these fuck ups partied all this time and had fun but they are still going to the same places as Amy and Molly. Molly decides that they need to go this this guy Nick's party just to be able to say that they at least did that.

They lie to Amy's parents and head out wearing the same outfits. They watch videos of Nick's party online and realize they have no idea where the party is. They call this dude Jared who ends up taking them to his party instead. Its on a big ass boat and no one is there. He has hats for them, gift bags, and music. Then they bump into Gigi. Gigi is always out of it but knows what she is talking about. After consuming what they think is coke and eating strawberries they run away after Gigi dives off the boat. Amy is like “We went to a party. Now lets go home.” They call a Lyft and their principal picks them up and they end up blasting porn through the car which had me cracking up. They end up at another students murder mystery party and fucking Gigi is there again! Molly is like “How are you dry?!” Gigi lets them know that the strawberries they had was laced and there is a crazy ass sequence where they are dolls. They end up finding the pizza place that delivered to where the party is and try to take the delivery man hostage. I loved this scene. He is like “Why would you get into a strangers car? Do you have a gun? I do!”

I honestly don't wanna ruin anymore of this movie. Everything I thought this movie would do it managed not to. I thought “Oh, she is gonna do this and this is gonna happen...” but none of it did. This movie managed to be pretty unpredictable to me and made me crack up laughing at parts. I liked that Amy was not struggling with being gay. Everyone that did not like her or Molly had it based off their personalities and not with who they were. This movie looked great too. Visually this was a really good looking movie. The acting was good and all the friendships were believable. Even the over the top characters seemed realistic. Friends felt like real friends which is something that does not always come across well in films. My only complaints would be the length. It felt a tad bit long towards the end and the music. This is just the old man in me. I'm sure all the songs are cool and new. I just didn't like 'em. The trailer for this did it no favors. Overall a really funny movie that is worth watching if you wanna laugh.
