Captain Marvel 4/10

This will have spoilers. This movie did not bring me joy. Today I headed out to see the new Captain Marvel movie starring Brie Larson. I wasn't super excited until the second trailer which bit me in the ass because it shows way too much. This takes place in 1995 so if you were not into the music at that time you are gonna be annoyed. I did not like any of the songs played in this even when they were brand new and thought about how there were better songs at the time but not as popular. They were also used at shitty times. This huge battle is happening and Just A Girl by No Doubt plays. That is not a fight song in any year. As for the visuals they were shaky a lot of the times. The effects just did not look all that good which is weird considering how good they have gotten. Some of them looked straight up like something out of a Netflix series. As for the story, it had no flavor. This movie was over two hours but could have been done as part of another movie. It felt long and not just because there was legit a half hour of trailers. Thanks, AMC. I shit you not. Half an hour of trailers.

Ver/Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers keeps having these nightmares where she gets glimpses of some ladies on Earth and interacting with them and then crashing in a plane. Her Kree commander who is obviously gonna betray her tells her to get her emotions in check and focus on battle. On a mission, her first, she gets captured and her mind is probed by Skrulls. She gets more information about her dreams and ends up on Earth. She meets a younger Nick Fury and Phil Coulson. She fights some Skrulls. Turns out they are not bad. She meets her old friend. They go to space, fights her former teammates, and then she heads back into space. The end. In between what I just wrote are some corny jokes, 90's references, and a cat that was more interesting than the villains.

I didn't even stay for the second scene during the credits. I was just ready to leave after the first one. Captain Marvel is OP as fuck so I'm not even sure how the other heroes can even contribute in the upcoming Avengers: Endgame movie. I did not hate this movie. I just thought it was dull and very paint by numbers. If this came out when the first Iron Man movie came out it would have been awesome. But since there have been like twenty other Marvel films since that one this just felt very blah for something that should have been incredible. There was never a moment where I wanted to laugh, clap, or cheer. This movie just existed and squeezed in some information that fits into previous movies that take place later. This character has the potential to be good later the same way Thor ended up being good. I wouldn't rush out to see this one unless you need to know why she pops up in later films.

Brie Larson as Vers/Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury
Ben Mendelsohn as Talos/Keller
Djimon Hounsou as Korath
Lashana Lynch as Maria Rambeau
Annette Bening as Mar-Vell/Dr. Wendy Lawson
Jude Law as Yon-Rogg
